Infineon Technologies was carved out from Siemens AG in 1999. Today it is one of the largest European semiconductor companies. In 2006 Infineon carved out its DRAM business. The memory oriented company is called Qimonda. Infineon comprises two business groups, Automotive, Industrial and Multimarket as well as Communication Solutions. From a total of 42.000 employees including Qimonda 30.000 employees world wide work for Infineon. 6.000 of those 30.000 are working in R&D. Apart from the headquarter in Munich R&D sites are located in D, F, A, B, S, UK, I, LIT and ROM. European based chip manufacturing plants are located in Dresden, Corbeil-Essonnes, Regensburg and Villach. The main general targets are to develop semiconductor solutions for "Energy Efficiency", "Mobility" and "Security".
