Logo Fraunhofer Group for Microelectronics

The German partner Fraunhofer Gesellschaft FhG is the largest organization for the advancement of applied research in Europe. It undertakes research of direct utility to private and public enterprises and of wide benefit to society. Its services are solicited by customers and contractual partners in industry, the service sector and public administration. It maintains roughly 80 research units, including 58 Fraunhofer institutes, at over 40 different locations throughout Germany, with a staff of some 12,500, predominantly qualified research scientists and engineers. It is organized into 7 working alliances devoted to specific broad research areas.

With its about 1600 employees at 11 institutes and 2 guest institutes, the Fraunhofer Microelectronics Alliance VµE covers nearly all areas of micro and nanoelectronics research. It has a long success story of bridging between academic research and industrial applications, frequently also including organizational links to nearby university facilities, and of contributing to and frequently shaping European cooperations.

Partners in industry are not only diverse because of their various business sectors, but also span from SMEs in the individual regions and beyond to the leading European semiconductor companies Infineon/Qimonda, NXP (Philips) and STMicroelectronics. In this way, the VµE is an ideal and indispensable partner for the PRINS infrastructure.
